The Sultanate enjoyed their most successful outing in their history at the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) after the national e-sport team struck a historic gold in the PUBG Mobile event following a four-day battle.
The national e-sport team comprising five athletes – Muhd Safwan Hakimi bin Abdullah Husaini, Muhd Danial Hadhrami Safiuddin bin Muhaimin, Md Danish Haqeeme Hizami bin Muhaimin, Mohammad Hadif Fadhli bin Sufari and Md Awie Azhar Hamzah outperformed 13 other Malaysian states under 20 rounds.
Having already secured gold in wushu, it marks the first time that Brunei Darussalam achieved multiple gold medals since making their maiden appearance in 1996.
The national team, under the guidance of team coach Haji Amirul Rashid bin Haji Othman, registered an overall score of 168 points, defeating Johor who took silver with 135 points. Selangor completed the podium with bronze after a tally of 132 points.
As of yesterday, Brunei has two gold, two silver and three bronze.
The national team is taking part in 11 sports events featuring 61 athletes in the 21st edition of the competition. – Fadhil Yunus
