The 2025 school year began on Thursday with enthusiasm and anticipation as students, teachers, and parents across Brunei embraced the new academic term. For many students stepping into new grades or schools, the start of the school year marks a significant milestone.
The first term commenced for all government and private primary and secondary schools, colleges, and sixth-form centres under the Ministry of Education, as well as Religious and Arabic schools under the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Pre-school sessions in government primary schools are scheduled to begin next Monday, while international schools, training centres, the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), and private higher education institutions will follow their respective academic calendars.
At Rimba III Primary School, a vibrant atmosphere marked the start of the term as 335 students were welcomed under the guidance of 36 dedicated teachers. Principal Noor Hayati binti Haji Emran expressed her excitement for the new academic year, highlighting the importance of collaboration among teachers, parents, and students to ensure a smooth learning experience.
“With the collaborative efforts of teachers, parents, and students themselves, I am optimistic that the education, lessons, and various school programmes will be achieved seamlessly,” she said. The Principal also emphasised the importance of open communication among stakeholders to overcome challenges and foster a supportive learning environment.
Rimba III Primary School has introduced the Insyirah programme and incorporated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) elements into its curriculum to promote creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. These initiatives aim to enrich students’ learning experiences and support their academic and extracurricular development.
“These enhancements reflect our dedication to creating a dynamic and inclusive educational environment for all,” Principal Noor Hayati added.
As students settle into their routines, Brunei reaffirms its commitment to ensuring quality education across all institutions. The Ministry of Education has urged parents and guardians to ensure regular attendance for their children, particularly those under the Compulsory Education Act, to guarantee their continued learning and development. — Fadley Faisal
