Brunei Darussalam’s weightlifters Mohammad Nashrul bin Haji Abu Bakar and Nina Juna broke national records in their events at the 2024 World Weightlifting Championships held in Manama, Bahrain recently.
Mohammad Nashrul lifted a combined 232 kilogrammes (kg) in the men under-61kg to break the national in snatch. He lifted 104kg in the snatch event, setting a new national record in snatch and lifted 128kg in the clean and jerk.
Nina Juna competed in the under-55kg category where she set a new national record with a combined weight lift of 155kg. She managed to pull off 87kg in the clean and jerk and 68kg in the snatch. – James Kon
