Brunei is uniquely positioned to drive regional progress through its strategic focus on sustainable development, energy innovation and economic resilience, said Adinin Group of Companies managing director and ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC) Brunei member Musa Adnin.

He said this during the related meetings of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits in Laos recently, adding that the Sultanate’s commitment ensures that it remains at the forefront of ASEAN’s efforts to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and competitive global economy.

He said Brunei will “continue to play a leading role in advancing initiatives like the Borneo Economic Community (BEC)”, adding that “by leveraging our strengths, such as a stable economy, digital transformation and leadership in energy, we are enhancing connectivity and collaboration across Borneo, positioning ourselves as a key driver of regional transformation”.

On October 10, Musa Adnin and the delegation represented the Sultanate at the ASEAN Leaders Interface Meeting alongside regional heads of state. They included Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Indonesian Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The advisory council presented recommendations on strategic priority areas of trade and investment facilitation, digital transformation as a catalyst, green energy transition and legacy projects.

The meeting with the leaders served as a milestone for ASEAN to enhance regional cooperation and reaffirm its commitment to sustainable and inclusive growth for the future.

Meanwhile, two Brunei companies were recognised at the ASEAN Business Awards 2024. Deleadi Petroleum Services Sdn Bhd received the SME Excellence Award for its commitment to creating employment opportunities and supporting Brunei’s economic development, and Poni Divers received the CSR Outstanding Award for its leadership in corporate social responsibility, particularly environmental sustainability and community-driven projects.
