Brunei Darussalam’s national Under-20 team began their campaign in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers with a 5-0 loss to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan yesterday.
The Young Wasps fell behind in the opening minute after Atiq Esam Embarkoh scored the opening goal for UAE. Brunei kept the West Asian side on bay for an hour before substitute Khalifa Khamis Alabadla doubled his side’s advantage in the 62nd minute.
UAE midfielder Ali Abdulaziz Abdulla converted a penalty kick in the 79th minute before Mayed Saeed Alawani made it 4-0 a minute later.
There was still time for UAE to add a fifth with substitute Mubarak Salem Aljaari finding the net deep into injury time.
Brunei will play Iran tomorrow before concluding their campaign against group hosts Kyrgyzstan two days later.
