Brunei under-20s lose to Iran in AFC qualifiers

Brunei Darussalam’s national under-20 team endured a heavy 8-0 defeat to Iran at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-20 Asian Cup Qualifiers at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan yesterday.

It was the Young Wasps’ second successive defeat after opening their campaign with a 5-0 loss to United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.

Iran forward Amir Ebrahimzadeh led the assault with five goals to his name including a four-goal blitz in a six-minute spell.

The Iranians broke the deadlock through Mohammadreza Torabi in the 22nd minute before Amir doubled his side’s lead five minutes later.

Iran midfielder Mojtaba Fakhrian added his name in the score-sheet before Hossein Hajizadehkhorasani joined in the act in the 55th minute.

The unstoppable Amir stole the show with strikes in the 66th, 69th, 70th and 72nd minute to take the match ball.

The Young Wasps will conclude their group stage campaign to designated hosts Kyrgyzstan tomorrow.
