Brunei to usher new year 1446 Hijrah tomorrow

To mark the migration of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) from Makkah Al-Mukarramah to Madinah Al-Munawwarah, the Sultanate will usher the new year of 1446 Hijrah of the Islamic calendar with Ilal Hijrah celebration tomorrow at mosques, suraus and religious halls nationwide starting at 5pm.

The main focus will be at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong, RPN Kampong Pandan Mosque in Belait District, Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong District and Utama Mohammad Salleh Mosque in Pekan Bangar, Temburong District.

Among the highlights include the reading of the doa for the end of year 1445 Hijrah and reading of the doa for the New Year 1446 Hijrah.

This year’s celebration is co-organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Health.

Other side events include the gift giving ceremony for babies born on 1st Muharram in conjunction with the Ilal Hijrah celebration; and lectures at ministries, government departments, higher education institutions and mosques. Themed ‘Preserving Mind, Prosperous Society’, the public are invited to attend the ceremony to welcome the arrival of the New Year 1446 Hijrah. – Azlan Othman
