Brunei to take part in major FIFA Series test

The Brunei Darussalam national football team’s maiden appearance in the upcoming FIFA Series will serve as a major test for the national players.

The team under the supervision of head coach Mario Rivera Campesino will open the curtains against Bermuda tonight and Vanuatu on March 26, both at the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

“Our mission here is not light and full of challenges. But the players need to focus on competing and work hard to overcome all challenges,” said Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) President Haji Feisal bin Haji Eusoff Patail during a meeting session with the players.

The president acknowledges the situation of the players with inadequate training, but the opportunity, expenses and full allowance borne by FIFA will be the responsibility of the players to cultivate their identity with full confidence to provide positive result.

“The players need to show quality, unrelenting spirit because the team is trying hard to contribute and make a name for Brunei Darussalam,” he added.

Meanwhile, the head coach said the team had shown improvement throughout the training session ahead of the FIFA Series matches.

“The match against Bermuda and Vanuatu is very challenging, where most players from the teams have experience in tournaments in leagues in Asian countries,” said Mario. FABD president and the executive committee members attended the training session at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
