Brunei to face Macau in second leg of Asian Cup qualifiers

The Brunei Darussalam national football team will be looking to reach the third round of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers when they face Macau in the second leg of the playoff round at the Centro Desportivo Olimpico in Taipa on Tuesday night (September 10).

The Wasps are in pole position to secure a berth as one of the playoff winners after a 3-0 victory in the first leg at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last Friday.

Goals from Hakeme Yazid Said, Nazry Aiman Azaman and Abdul Hariz Herman ensured a historic night on home soil for interim boss Jamie McAllister’s impressive charges.

Should Brunei emerge victorious in the two-legged affair, they will join the 21 confirmed teams allocated in one of the six groups.

The Wasps are unbeaten in four matches, with the last three ending with a clean sheet, the first time that they have attained such feat.

The third and final round of qualifying, which will see six group winners earning a ticket in the finals in Saudi Arabia, has been slated to commence in March next year.

Brunei will be bidding to reach the finals for the first time in their history.
