The grand assembly for the 41st National Day celebration will be held on February 23, at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, starting at 9am.
Rehearsals for the marches and performances, involving approximately 20,000 students and civil servants, are currently underway. The dry run, camera rehearsal and full dress rehearsal will take place from February 18 to 20.
For this year’s celebration, the marching contingent will be divided into three groups. Group ‘A’ will consist of the giant flag bearer (leading the march), the pledge and Takbir group, the national and logo flag bearers, uniformed personnel, cadets, uniformed associations and the public sector. Group ‘B’ will comprise the education sector and Group ‘C’ will consist of associations, the private sector and seven Bruneian indigenous groups.
Three themed performances will be showcased at the event: ‘Permata Bangsa’; ‘Patriotic Songs Medley’; and ‘Bersatu Mencapai Cita Negara’.
These details were announced at the 41st National Day celebration press conference held at the Jerudong Sports Complex, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday.
Meanwhile, flag distribution will be held simultaneously in all four districts on February 13. The giant flag hoisting ceremony will be held on February 15 at the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Complex and the giant flag lowering ceremony will be held on February 25.
The executive committee for the 41st National Day celebration called on Bruneians and residents to show their support by celebrating and enlivening National Day. They are encouraged to hoist the national flag at private residences, offices and business premises and to install and light street lights on government and private sector buildings from February 15 to 25.
The executive committee also reminded the public attending the grand assembly to prioritise their well-being by adhering to guidelines. In light of the current weather conditions, they are advised to bring essential items such as bottled water, umbrellas and hats as precautions.
Yesterday’s press conference was also attended by several members of the 41st National Day working committee, including Director of Curriculum Education at the Ministry of Education Haji Julaihi bin Mohamad and Acting Director of the Museums Department Pengiran Haji Rosli bin Pengiran Haji Halus.
Also present were Director of Youth and Sports Development Zainab binti Haji Morshidi, Director of Culture and Arts Haji Mohd Abdoh bin Haji Damit, Acting Director of Investigation and Traffic Control Senior Supt Pang Teck Ann, Haji Manaf bin Haji Japar from the Adat Istiadat Negara Department and Head of Emergency Medical Ambulances Services Hajah Nora binti Haji Md Yusof.
The event concluded with the presentation of a prize to Mohammad Nuramar Faiq @ Bahrin from the Adat Istiadat Negara Department, the winner of the 41st National Day logo competition and the presentation of posters to representatives from ministries and the media. – Lyna Mohamad
