The national men and women tennis teams left the Sultanate yesterday to take part in the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers in Bahrain next week.
The male team comprising Aiman Abdullah, Gavin Yeung Kok Lim, Nicholas Boey and Awangku Ahmad Dasuqi bin Pengiran Haji Sulaiman will play their fixtures at the Bahrain Tennis Federation Polytechnic University in Isa Town.
The Brunei male team is currently placed in the Asia/Oceania Group V, which will take place from November 20 to 23. There will be one pool of three teams and three pools of four teams. The winner from each pool will contest in a playoff and the top two teams will earn promotion.
Meanwhile, the female team comprising Areeesha Zain, Eunice Ying Ci Lo, Jia Hui Tan and Danielle Lim will compete at the Bahrain Tennis Club in Manama.
The female team, who are in Asia/Oceania Group III, is scheduled to play between November 25 and 30. Three pools of four teams and one pool of five teams will vie for top spot which will be subsequently followed with the playoffs.
Two spots involving the playoff winners will secure promotion. – Fadhil Yunus
