Brunei swimmer Hayley sets two national records in Commonwealth Youth Games

National swimmer Hayley Wong Ann Yue rewrote the history books after breaking two new national records during her feat in the 7th Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.

The swimming talent recorded a time of 29.31s in the women’s 50 metres (m) butterfly event to eclipse the previous national record of 29.63s at the National Aquatics Stadium.

Hayley also broke a national record in the women’s 200m breaststroke event after clocking a time of 2:53.79s, eclipsing the previous mark of 2:55.10s.

Brunei’s male swimmer Zeke Chan Zhi Yue narrowly missed out on the national record after posting a time of 59.78s in the men’s 100m backstroke event.

The national record for the 100m male backstroke event currently stands at 59.61s.

Meanwhile, national teammate Sharmeen binti Mohammad Mharvin competed in the women’s 100m backstroke event. She finished with a time of 1:14.01s. – Fadhil Yunus
