The new instalment of the Brunei Super League season will make an eagerly-anticipated return following the international break with a line-up of matches set to excite football fans this weekend.

The league contenders are expected to mount a serious tilt for the coveted prize with a number of teams already showing their prowess during the first round of matches.

But with the long season ahead, the pre-season favourites are expected not to get carried away and will ensure no complacency despite a strong start.

Reigning holders Kasuka FC are off to a flying start after trouncing Lun Bawang 9-0 with Leon Sullivan Taylor and Adi Said bagging hat-tricks.

The team have been strengthened with Leon returning for his second spell having played for them from 2020 to 2022.

The Liberian forward emerged as top scorer for rivals Indera SC last season and will be looking forward to hit the same numbers and help Kasuka defend the title.

He left the club and joined Thai outfit Maraleina in the off season where he impressed with a hat-trick Chainat United.

This season is expected to see DPMM FC II emerge as a force as their second team look to bring domestic glory since the first team won the FA Cup in 2022.

The team have added experienced Spanish player Sergio Mendigutxia, the two-goal hero against MS ABDB in match-day one, to their roster.

DPMM FC II have also been strengthened with the signing of Kyrgyzstan international Bakhtiyar Duyshobekov as well as Sergio’s compatriot Matias Hernandez and Brazilian Marcelo Junior.

Two-time champions Indera SC have also invested heavily with the acquisition of foreign players following the arrivals of Nigerian duo George Olantude and Babatunde Abiodun, Indonesian Amir Hamzah and Timor Leste’s Elias Mesquita.

The second round of the Brunei Super League will continue tomorrow with four-time winners ABDB taking on AKSE Bersatu at the Berakas Sports Complex.

Meanwhile, Kasuka will look to make two wins in a row against Jerudong FC on Saturday with four ties to be played on Sunday. – Fadhil Yunus
