Brunei Select triumph over Brunei Legends in friendly showdown

Brunei Select came out on top in the Pusat Ehsan Charity Football Match after running out 4-1 winners against Brunei Legends at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas last night.

The crowd who was hugely entertained throughout the match witnessed a special moment as Fernando Morientes, one of Spain top forwards, opened the scoring for Brunei Select.

The designated home team Brunei Legends drew level as team captain His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen sent the crowd wild with a tidy finish following a wonderfully played pass by Ricardo Quaresma.

Quaresma tried an effort which sailed harmlessly wide much to the relief of the opposing goalkeeper.

Brunei Legends goalkeeper made a magnificent double save to deny efforts from Shahrazen Said and Haziq. The goalkeeper also had to stay alert to keep out Wafiq in a one-on-one situation.

Quaresma tried the spectacular after spotting the goalkeeper off his line but the latter managed to retreat and cover the ball to safety.

It was a substitution masterstroke for the men in white as Farish Aziz brilliantly poked the ball home past the goalkeeper following a lofted ball from Safee Sali.

With half-time fast approaching, there was only one winner in the box as defender Michael Henry buried a header home, presenting the Brunei Select a two-goal cushion.

Arifubillah came close to pull a goal back for Brunei Select after a neat turn but dragged his shot just wide.

A turning point of the game nearly broke for Brunei Legends when a penalty was awarded after Quaresma was tripped in the box but the former Chelsea star did not make the opportunity count.
