Brunei Darussalam’s taekwondo athletes bagged a flurry of medals at the 12th Speed Power International Open Taekwondo Championship 2025 in a demonstration of sporting excellence in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia over the weekend.
The team bagged two gold, three silver and one bronze in the poomsae (forms) event and one gold, one silver and one bronze in the kyorugi (Sparring) event.
A delegation of 13 athletes represented the country, competing against top contenders from Malaysia, Australia, Nepal, Indonesia, India, Turkiye, South Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines and Singapore.
The team was accompanied by head coach Master Nikman Waie along with coaches Dean and Habibah. The championship showcased high-level performances across both poomsae and kyorugi categories with Brunei emerging as a formidable force on the international stage.
The results are an example of hard work, dedication and discipline of Brunei’s athletes, as well as the guidance provided by their coaches.
The Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association (BDTA) extended its congratulations to the entire team.
Master Nikman Waie expressed his pride in the team’s performance, stating, “Our athletes have demonstrated not only their technical skills but also the spirit of perseverance and sportsmanship.
