Brunei Darussalam young karate exponent Muhammad Azizul Aafii bin Mohammad Nazeri did the country proud after securing the bronze medal in the individual 14-15 years cadet Kumite +70 kilogramme category at the highly-anticipated 11th South East Asian Karate Federation (SEAKF) Championships 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand recently.
The local talent defeated an Indonesian opponent 8-5 to contribute to the nation’s medal tally.
A total of 15 national athletes accompanied by three national coaches from the Youth and Sports Department as well as several delegates from the Brunei Darussalam Karate Federation took part in the event across various categories in kumite (sparring) and kata (pattern).
The delegation included two kumite coaches; Haji Okhida and Nabil and a kata coach Bayu.
The tournament served as an avenue for Southeast Asian Games countries specifically for karate exponents aged 14 years and above. – Fadhil Yunus
