Brunei scout association hosts regional meeting

Scouts representatives from six countries are currently in Brunei Darussalam for the 17th ASEAN Scout Association for Regional Cooperation (ASARC) Meeting.

The meeting at Ar Rasyid Room of AMAS building in Lamunin, Tutong District saw representatives from the Sultanate as host country, Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

ASARC Chairman Dr Somboon Bunyasri from the National Scout Organization of Thailand; ASARC Secretary General Dr Wanyada Budhtranon from the National Scout Organization of Thailand; ASARC Taskforce Committee members Rajalingam Ramasamy from the Malaysia Scout Association, Settanun Ungkulpasvich from the National Scout Organization of Thailand; and ASARC consultant cum chairman of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Davao City Council Wendel E Avisado were present. Also attending the meeting using online platform was Asia Pacific Support Centre at World Organization of the Scout Movement as the advisor to ASARC.

The meeting discussed several matters including a review of ASARC meeting in Thailand on September 17, 2022; regional level activities including the ASEAN Jamboree; the next host of ASARC meeting; and ASARC’s progress to achieving its objectives.

The event was aimed at encouraging and improving bilateral cooperation, friendship and unity among ASEAN countries as well as working and collaborating closely to coordinate efforts and programmes beneficial to the people particularly the youth. The meeting also aimed to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN countries based on scouts principle and charter; assist scout development and promotion in ASEAN countries; and address related issues.

Earlier on April 28, Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD) hosted a dinner to welcome the delegations.

PPNBD President Dato Paduka Ar Haji Idris bin Haji Abas and Scouts Chief Commissioner Haji Awang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali were also in attendance.
