Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman was officially appointed as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Secretary General during the 43rd General AIPA that took place recently in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The 43rd General Assembly of AIPA was officially inaugurate by President of the National Assembly of Cambodia and the 43rd AIPA, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin. The meeting concluded on November 25 and Brunei Darussalam was nominated for the first time to have a representative as the secretary general for 2023-2025.
Siti Rozaimeriyanty, who was a former member of Brunei Darussalam’s Legislative Council highlighted, “The role of ASEAN with support from AIPA is to bring the people together and platforms for them to grow their ideas while reinforcing legislative measures.
“We must gain the support from the grassroots as ASEAN must be a unified and inclusive region” in her acceptance speech. She also acknowledged Nguyen Tuong Van, for her admirable work and efforts through the years.
It is only right to continue all the legacy that has been paved and advance together in the spirit of ASEAN solidarity and one community.
She concluded her speech by looking forward to speakers of Parliament of ASEAN member states, members of Parliament and delegate’s support and boosting regular interaction with ASEAN and dialogue partners in making ‘ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth’ next year.
AIPA is a regional parliamentary organisation originally formed on September 2, 1977 and previously known as the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization (AIPO).
