Brunei Darussalam reiterated its solidarity with the Palestinian people, amid the recent escalation of violence that has resulted in the loss of innocent lives, suffering, and destruction of properties.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) released on Monday urged “all parties to immediately cease all forms of violence and exercise utmost restraint.”
The statement further called upon all parties to abide by their obligations in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Charter, particularly in protecting the security and safety of all civilians.
“The escalation of conflict and violence in Palestine demands urgent action to create an environment conducive to peace talks without delay. To this end, we reaffirm our support towards international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East on the basis of international law and the relevant UN resolutions,” the statement added.
“The plight of the Palestinians remains at the core of the conflict in the Middle East. For decades, Palestinians have been denied their inalienable rights to self-determination, peace, and freedom due to prolonged occupation, forced displacement, and the continuing expansion of illegal settlements, ” the statement further read.
The statement also reiterated Brunei Darussalam’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and the creation of an independent State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
