Brunei Darussalam’s total trade for October 2024 reached BND1,682.1 million, according to the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (DEPS). The figure includes exports valued at BND1,063.2 million and imports amounting to BND618.9 million.
Mineral Fuels remained the dominant export, contributing 69.1 per cent of the total export value, followed by Chemicals at 27.8 per cent and Machinery and Transport Equipment at 1.9 per cent.
The main export markets were the People’s Republic of China with 25.5 per cent of total exports, followed by Japan at 19.7 per cent and Australia at 19.6 per cent. Mineral Fuels and Chemicals were the largest commodities exported to these countries.
Imports for October 2024 were valued at BND618.9 million, with the top three import commodities being Mineral Fuels (59.8 per cent), Machinery and Transport Equipment (13.9 per cent) and Food (9.6 per cent).
The largest import partners were Malaysia at 29.9 per cent of total imports, followed by Australia (19.0 per cent) and United Arab Emirates (16.5 per cent). The main commodities imported from these countries were Mineral Fuels, Food, and Chemicals.
The trade balance for October 2024 showed a significant improvement, rising by 30.0 per cent compared to September 2024. This was attributed to a 24.9 per cent decline in imports.
Imports by end-use categories were primarily used as Intermediate Goods for processing (57.6 per cent), Capital Goods for business operations (38.1 per cent) and Consumption Goods for household use (4.3 per cent).
