    Brunei ranked 185th in FIFA World rankings

    Brunei Darussalam’s national football team has been ranked 185th out of 210 teams in the world, according to the latest rankings published by FIFA recently.

    The latest rankings see Brunei drop one place compared to the previous rankings when they were placed 184th. The Wasps are ranked ahead of American Samoa, Mongolia and Cook Islands but trailed behind Bhutan, Bangladesh and Dominica.

    The Wasps are currently in the third round of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 qualifying where they have been drawn in Group ‘B’ alongside Lebanon, Bhutan and Yemen. They began their campaign with a 5-0 loss to Lebanon and will next host Bhutan at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas on June 10. Meanwhile, Southeast Asian nation Myanmar was the biggest climber in the latest installment of the rankings after jumping seven places from 169th to 162nd.The Asian Football Federation (AFF) side moved into second place in Group ‘E’ of the AFC Asian Cup third round qualification after winning 2-1 against Afghanistan.

    Reigning world champions Argentina hold onto top spot of the rankings with Spain overtaking France in second place with the Les Bleus in third place. England, managed by former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, are fourth while Brazil completed the top five.

    Based on AFC rankings, Japan topped the list followed by Iran and South Korea. In terms of teams ranked continentally, Brunei sit in 39th place out of 46 entries. – Fadhil Yunus
