Brunei tables BND6.25b budget, forecasts fiscal deficit

At the ongoing 20th Legislative Council (LegCo) Session, the Brunei Government has put forward a budget of BND6.25 Billion for the Financial Year 2024/2025, up 5.5 per cent from the last Financial Year, despite considerable fiscal challenges and a projected deficit.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and Minister of Finance and Economy II Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah during his budget speech disclosed figures that indicate a BND2.70 Billion deficit recorded in the previous financial year (2023/2024) and an anticipated fiscal deficit of BND2.99 Billion in the upcoming financial year (2024/2025).

Under the theme ‘Building a Prosperous Future Together,’ the 2024/2025 budget outlines three key priorities. These include enhancing public welfare and productivity, promoting sustainable economic diversification, and fostering dynamic and visionary human capital development.
