Brunei plays host to ASEAN cyber resilience talk

The Legislative Council (LegCo) will host the 15th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus Meeting on June 11 and 12 at The Empire Brunei.

The meeting will be attended by delegations from AIPA member states to discuss the status of the implementation of resolutions approved during the 44th AIPA General Assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia last year.

As host, the Sultanate will focus on the thematic topic ‘Strengthening ASEAN Cyber Resilience through Parliamentary Cooperation: Towards a Future of Safe and Vibrant Digital Economy’.

In line with this theme, the meeting aims to support ASEAN’s commitment to developing the digital economy throughout the region by 2025 as well as supporting the development of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA).

As outlined in the Bandar Seri Begawan Roadmap (BSBR), ASEAN DEFA provides a comprehensive roadmap in empowering businesses and stakeholders in the ASEAN region through trade growth, increased interoperability, a secure online environment, and the participation of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with ensure cyber security.

Brunei Darussalam became a full member of AIPA in 2009 and hosted the General Assembly in 2013 and 2021, as well as the AIPA Caucus Meeting for the first time in 2014.

Speaker of LegCo Yang Brhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib will officiate the opening ceremony, while LegCo member Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof will chair the meeting.

Brunei Darussalam will be represented by a delegation including LegCo members Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Suyoi bin Haji Osman Osman; Yang Berhormat Chong Chin Yee and Yang Berhormat Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Momin.

Members of Parliament play an important role in working closely with their governments towards the realisation of mutually agreed upon goals. They are also the main link between the people and the government. – Azlan Othman
