Brunei, Philippines discuss education cooperation

Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh received a courtesy call from Philippine’s Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte, in her capacity as the President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) Council and Secretary of Education of the Philippines in Gadong.

The two sides held discussions to strengthen and expand cooperation at the core education level, especially in the memorandum of understanding on basic education that focusses on the relationship between institutions of the two countries, professional development among teachers and the establishment of cooperation in early childhood education.

The two parties also agreed to cooperate with SEAMEO, particularly through programmes and activities offered at the SEAMEO voctech Regional Centre.

Ambassador of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam Marian Jocelyn R Tirol-Ignacio was also present, joined by Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Chin Wei Keh and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

The Philippines vice president is on a working visit to Brunei Darussalam. Brunei Darussalam is the first member country she has visited since assuming the role as the current President of SEAMEO Council (SEAMEC).
