Brunei female petanque team captured the bronze medal at the 5th Asia Petanque Championship 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The team comprising Mulsinah binti Haji Amran, Norhani binti Haji Juna, Khairul Bariyah binti Khairul Anuar and Nuramalina binti Mazlan beat South Korea to advance into the semi-final to meet Malaysia. In the match, Malaysia cruised to the final with 13-0 win over Brunei.
Norhani said, “With team effort, we collected a bronze medal. It was a tough lost to Malaysia as they were the favourite in the competition. However, we will strive to improve our game in the future through training.”
She revealed that the team will compete in the Petanque World Championship in Bangkok, Thailand in November.
President of Brunei Darussalam Boules Sports Federation Haji Mohamad bin Penglima Asgar Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah said, “With this achievement, I can see that our women’s team is improving. We hope to continue with training and participate in more local, regional and international competitions.”
Haji Mohamad revealed that a new petanque coach is arriving from overseas to further develop the junior and senior teams. – James Kon
