The Brunei Darussalam national contingent delivered another excellent performance in pencak silat after winning the gold medal in the women’s artistic individual event during the third day of the 11th BIMPNT-EAGA Friendship Games in the Philippines.
The country welcomed a new sporting heroine after national silat exponent Nur Afifah Shaheqah Masli won a third gold medal in pencak silat.
The rising star registered a total of 9.940 points to underline a complete performance as her opponent Sharmaine K Balabul from Philippines ‘C’ took silver with 9.355 points.
Her compatriot Mohamad Hasan Mohamad Iskandar won silver in the men’s artistic individual event after losing to Muhammad Ilham of Indonesia in the final.
The national star recorded a total of 9.920 points while his victorious opponent registered a total of 9.955 points to take gold.
The country has already won two golds in the men’s and women’s team events in pencak silat as well as bronze in athletics and karate.
The men’s kata team comprising Farhin Ildan, Muhd Iqbal, and Muhd Syahmi Zaffran also added to the contingent’s growing collection with silver.
Meanwhile, Brunei badminton representatives enjoyed a series of podium finishes with four bronze.
The four bronzes went to Md Talipuddin bin Ermadena in the men’s singles; the duo of Muhd Izzuddin bin Ermadena and Mohammad Haziq bin Roze in the men’s doubles; Nurul Asyiqin Mu’izzah binti Mohd Suhud and Rachel Pong Xue Ting in the women’s doubles; and Mohammad Hakem Rahimiee bin Bakar and Amal Norsyazawanah binti Airwan in the mixed doubles.
Elsewhere at the Palawan State University, the men’s sepak takraw team secured bronze following their loss in the semi-finals against Indonesia.
The men’s team comprising Muhd Asllyi, Muhd Asyraf, Muhd Nuramirul Alam, Abd Raziq Waqiuddin, and Muhd Faiz Fikri lost the tie 6-15 9-15 but was already guaranteed a medal after passing the group stage.
Currently, Brunei’s medal tally stands at three gold, two silver and seven bronze. – Fadhil Yunus
