Brunei officers join Singapore programme

Five officers from the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, selected to participate in the second cohort of the Public Service Development Programme in Singapore, left the country on Thursday.

The participants comprised officers from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), and the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC).

The Public Service Development Programme is an outcome of the 8th Young Leaders’ Programme (YLP) and was further strengthened through the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in public service capacity development between the Government of His Majesty and Singapore on August 24.

The programme is in its second iteration, following the successful conclusion of the first iteration on May 28. It provides opportunities for high-performing officers within the Sultanate’s Civil Service to work in Singapore government or government-linked agencies within specific areas in alignment with key priorities of the Brunei civil service.

Selected officers will have the opportunity to develop key competencies, expand their professional reach and, upon completion of the programme, contribute to the development of their respective home organisations and to the overall growth and progress of the Brunei civil service.

The cooperation is expected to yield advantages through idea exchange, gaining insights from Singapore’s experience and best practices, enhancing knowledge and establishing professional networks, while further bolstering the longstanding positive relationship between Brunei and Singapore.

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof bid farewell to the participants at the Brunei International Airport.

Deputy Minister (Security and Law) at the PMO Dato Seri Paduka Haji Sufian bin Haji Sabtu; Permanent Secretary (Civil Service Governance) at the PMO Ajman bin Haji Meludin; Deputy Permanent Secretary (Civil Service Governance) at the PMO Pengiran Haji Raffizanna bin Pengiran Haji Razali; and Director-General of Public Service Department at the PMO Dr Norfarizal bin Othman were also present.
