Brunei musicians perform at King Charles III’s Coronation Concert

None of us knew what to expect but to present the best to the rest of the world. We were pleasantly surprised when we woke up the day after the coronation that friends from the United Kingdom (UK) were posting videos of us at the mega concert, said Principal of Yippy Tune Music School Deon Ong after a music video featuring 27 students from the school was aired by BBC infront of the 20,000 audience during King Charles III coronation on May 7.

The music video shot at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, Bandar Seri Begawan was among the shortlisted nations chosen from the Commonwealth countries to have their recordings aired at the “virtual duet” with Steve Winwood while he performed the song Higher Love live at King Charles III’s Coronation Celebration.

According to Deon Ong, BBC reached out to the school two months ago with an assignment with no promise that they would be shortlisted.

“Leading up to the recording, the kids practiced, prepared and rehearsed tirelessly and recorded many takes in our national costumes under the hot weather at our most beautiful landmark,” she added.
