Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah yesterday announced that the theme for the national budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year will continue to emphasise the same theme from the previous two fiscal years ‘Building a Prosperous Future Together’.
The theme will guide the nation’s financial strategy for the final year of the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 budgets, ensuring continuity and consistency in the implementation of policies and financial goals.
The decision to maintain the theme is in line with Brunei’s strategic objectives under Brunei Vision 2035.The government highlighted that the theme will focus on three key priorities: enhancing public welfare and productivity; fostering sustainable economic diversification; developing a dynamic and visionary human capital.
In his address, the minister said the budget’s theme is a strategic guide to optimise the country’s resources, with a strong emphasis on sustainable and inclusive development.
The aim is to build a resilient and dynamic economy that will ensure the continued well-being of the population. Key to this approach is the promotion of projects and initiatives that stimulate economic growth, diversify sectors, and improve the business environment to attract high-quality investments. Special attention is given to government-linked companies (GLCs) and their role in creating quality jobs, particularly in the private sector. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to providing high-quality infrastructure and inclusive education, ensuring that citizens are equipped with the skills necessary for future industries. The minister also elaborated on the government’s ongoing efforts to improve public welfare.
The focus includes strengthening infrastructure such as roads, energy, clean water and public facilities to improve the quality of life for citizens. Several allocations have been made under the National Development Plan (RKN), ensuring that the country’s socio-economic growth is supported by these critical developments.
“The development of human capital will remain a key focus as we prepare our workforce for the future. It includes investing in skill development and training to ensure a competitive workforce ready to contribute to the nation’s productivity,” the minister said. As part of its continued commitment to the priorities outlined, the government has allocated a specific amount of BND27.5 million for various projects under the focus programme. The funding will help drive forward the national budget’s core goals for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, ensuring that Brunei’s future remains bright and prosperous.
The minister concluded by reinforcing the importance of these budgetary priorities in supporting Brunei’s long-term vision and maintaining a strong and stable economy. As the budget proposals are further discussed, the government’s plan promises to continue fostering a unified and prosperous future for citizens. – Fadley Faisal
