The Brunei Darussalam national football team were on the receiving end of an emphatic 7-0 loss to Indonesia in the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Mitsubishi Electric Cup (AMEC 2022) at the KLFA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday.

The result marked the Wasps’ – who were making their first appearance in 26 years in the tournament proper- third successive loss of the competition.

The opening goal of the game came as Indonesia midfielder Syahrian Abimanyu fired a low effort into the near bottom corner after being teed up by Ilija Spasojevic.

Brunei were reduced to 10 men after defender Alinur Rashimy Jufri was given his marching orders in the 38th minute.

It was a scrappy goal for Indonesia’s second of the game but they could not care less as forward Dendy Sulistyawan guided the ball into the net whilst on a seated position.

Indonesia main attacker Egy Maulana produced a diving header to gift his side’s third of the game following a teasing cross by Edo Febriansah.

Spasojevic added his team’s fourth after improvising with a back-heel from close range.

Indonesia forward Ramadan Sananta steered the ball home following good service from Yakob Sayuri to open his senior international account.

The Garudas grabbed a sixth as Marc Klok punished the Bruneian defence as no-one tracked down his run, with Sayuri creating a fine assist.

Impossible to ignore as Indonesia’s most creative outlet, Sayuri compounded the designated hosts’ misery after burying his header home.
