Brunei Darussalam’s national futsal team produced a highly-spirited performance during a 4-2 defeat to Kuwait in Group ‘F’ of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Asian Cup 2024 qualification at the Khalifa Sports City Hall in Manama, Bahrain on Saturday.
The Wasps stunned the Middle Eastern side after Abdul Malik bin Yunus opened the scoring in the 17th minute.
Awangku Muhammad Idzzaham Aleshahmezan bin Pengiran Metali and Muhammad Izzan bin Zamain combined to initiate a dangerous attack before Abdul Malik sent a rasping drive into the net.
However, the joy was short-lived as Kuwait got back into the game after Bader Almansour scored the equaliser just three minutes later.
The Kuwaitis snatched the lead through Saleh Adfahel a minute after the restart before a Abdulrahman Altawail penalty made it 3-1.
The Wasps narrowed the deficit after Mohd Fardi Farhan bin Affendi scored in the 25th minute before a second Altawail spot-kick restored a two-goal cushion for his side.
The Bruneians will continue their campaign against designated group hosts Bahrain today. – Fadhil Yunus
