Brunei Darussalam national under-19 team were hit with double digits in their opening group stage match of the ASEAN Under-19 Boys’ Championship after being battered 11-0 by Malaysia in Surabaya, Indonesia yesterday.
The Young Wasps found themselves in the backfoot almost instantaneously as Malaysia broke the deadlock in the second minute through G Pavithran.
Malaysia under-19 striker Abid Safaraz Rozaidi bagged a brace in the 14th and 16th minute before Danish Hakimi Sahaludin added a fourth in the 25th minute. Haykal Danish Mohd Haizon made it 5-0 in the 42nd minute before Pavithran netted his second of the game just a minute later.
The Young Tigers continued the onslaught after the interval with Izzat Syahir Mohd Zulihsan, Amir Farhan Mohd Fuzi, Zamirul Hakim Mohamad Khair, a second from Abid and Shafizan Arshad rounding off a comprehensive win.
Brunei will continue their campaign against Thailand on July 22. – Fadhil Yunus
