Brunei logs 244 new COVID cases

A total of 244 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Brunei Darussalam yesterday, bringing the national tally of confirmed cases to 143,616. No deaths related to coronavirus were reported.

From the latest number of infection, 236 cases were results from antigen rapid test (ART) and eight were obtained from 332 RT-PCR laboratory tests performed in the past 24 hours, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar during the daily press conference yesterday.

Two cases are in Category 4, requiring oxygen assistance, while Category 5 has no cases.

The total number of recoveries increased to 142,061 after 100 cases recovered yesterday.

The Sultanate has 1,336 active cases, with 28 receiving treatment at hospitals and 1,308 undergoing home self-isolation.

Meanwhile, 1,621 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered to children aged five to 11 on Tuesday, bringing the total to 27,694, making up 64.5 per cent from the age group.

Fourteen per cent of children in the age group have received the second dose of the vaccine, equivalent to 5,996 doses after 1,188 were administered on Tuesday.

A total of 67.2 per cent of the total populace have received booster shots.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin also attended the press conference.
