Brunei LNG continued their programme by planting an additional 600 saplings yesterday, following 200 tree saplings planted in March.

Over 120 volunteers from Brunei LNG, accompanied by volunteers from Green Brunei and the Brunei Climate Change Secretariat, as well as officers and staff from the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism helped to plant the saplings in Bukit Perumpong, Kampong Sungai Liang.

Present to oversee the planting was Brunei LNG Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, joined by Executive Vice President LNG at Shell PLC Cederic Cremers, Vice President Brunei, Shell Shareholder Representative Suzanne Coogan, and Co-founder and Community Engagement Director of Green Brunei Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari.

In her opening remarks, Hajah Farida expressed delight to plant more saplings in the area as part of their continued commitment to offset their carbon footprint.

She also highlighted that out of the 200 trees that were previously planted, some of the saplings did not survive due to the unforeseen circumstances.

To make up for these losses, she said, “The event will also be re-planting 20 saplings, in addition to the planting (of the 600 saplings) to ensure that we can to reach our target of 1,000 trees in 2022.”

Hajah Farida hopes that in planting the saplings in the area, “future generations will live in a time where the impact of climate change is reducing and not growing at the rate we are seeing today”.

Similarly, Khairunnisa shared, “The continued collaboration as delivery partner for Brunei LNG has been a success and we are close to reaching Brunei LNG’s goal of planting 1,000 trees in 2022.”

The programme is part of Brunei LNG’s commitment to the Green Protocol under the Brunei Darussalam National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP), supporting the Brunei Government’s commitment towards a low carbon and climate-resilient nation.
