Brunei handball teams compete in Kuching meet

The Brunei Darussalam men’s handball team concluded their group stage matches in Group D of the Sarawak Open Handball Championship 2023 with one win and two losses at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UMS) in Kuching, Sarawak.

The newly-established national team began their campaign with a hard-fought 8-7 victory over UITM Samarahan followed by a 4-9 loss to Inderapura HC.

During the opening-day win, Mohd Nur Rahimi Afiq Hasyir bin Haji Ismail and Mohammad Raiyan bin Mohd Yussof scored twice while the remaining conversions came from Awangku Ahmad Ziyad bin Pengiran Abdul Malik, Mohammad Shahrul Azwan bin Shari, Abdul Waliyulhakim bin Saiful Rizal, and Awangku Muhammad Nur Fadlin bin Pengiran Haji Roslin.

Meanwhile, two goals from Awangku Muhammad Nur Fadlin and a goal each from Abdul Waliyulhakim and Muhammad Nur Iman Hakimi bin Mohammad Nur Adenan proved mere consolation in their second match.

The national men’s team concluded their group stage matches with a 18-3 defeat to Kijang HC.

The scorers were Abdul Waliyulhakim, Awangku Ahmad Ziyad and Mohammad Sharul Azwan.

Meanwhile, the national women’s handball team lost 2-4 to X-Vixens in their opening match. The national women’s team are also scheduled to play against H-Mix and Budi Luhur HC in Group Z. – Fadhil Yunus
