Brunei golfers invited to Sabah challenge

Brunei golfers are invited to tee off in the Sabah Tourism Golf Challenge that offers a total prize pool of up to BND30,000.

The event will take place from December 5 to 7 at three of Sabah’s golf courses – Sutera Harbour Marina Golf and Country Club, Dalit Bay Golf and Country Club, and Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai.

Details of the challenge were shared during a presentation at the office of Tourism Malaysia Brunei at The Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.

Tourism Malaysia Brunei Director Hazrina Azman, in her welcoming remarks said, “Malaysia has been among the top destinations for Bruneian golfers. As of August this year, the arrival of Bruneians to Malaysia was recorded at 785,000, and we believe this number includes our fellow Brunei golfers.”

She noted that Malaysia has 148 golf courses across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak, 77 of which are open to the public.

“Each course has its own unique characteristics and environment to cater to professionals and amateurs. We are happy to introduce our Malaysia Golf e-Directory for your future golf plans in Malaysia,” she added.

Brunei Darussalam Golf Association Honorary Secretary Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hamid bin Haji Jaafar, Brunei Darussalam Association of Senior Golfers (BDASG) Deputy President Haji Muhammad Lufti bin Haji Muhammad Hanif and representatives from the Brunei Ladies Golf Association, along with members of local travel agents were present at the event.

The tournament hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah will feature appearances from renowned golf celebrities and influencers from South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia.

X Multisport Event General Manager and organiser Ahmad Syuaib Nasir said, “We are thrilled to host the Sabah Tourism Golf Challenge and look forward to welcoming golfers from all over Southeast Asia to experience the beauty and hospitality of Sabah. The event not only promotes golf but also highlights Sabah as a premier sports tourism destination.”

“The event aims to bring together 360 golfers from across the region, offering opportunities for individual and team competitions. As of today, participants from South Korea, China, Singapore, and the Philippines have already registered, with more expected to join,” he said.

The competition is split into team and individual events (men and women), and participants are entitled to novelty prizes throughout the rounds and a daily lucky draw. – James Kon
