Brunei golfer shoots 64 in final day of 3M Open Qualifier

Brunei Darussalam national golfer Awangku Muhd Syakir bin Pengiran Haji Alli produced the best performance in the third and final round of the 3M Open Qualifier after posting the lowest score of the day with a score of eight-under-64 in Pattaya, Thailand yesterday.

The national golfer had nine birdies and eight pars with only one bogey in an otherwise solid round to end his overseas experience with a high.

Brunei’s Mohammad Qawim Fakhri bin Haji Aslimon, one of five local golfers in the qualifying tournament, registered the best overall score among his compatriots with a total of two-over-218.

Mohammad Qawim also came fifth overall in the three-day meet, which was won by Thailand’s Thaya Limpipolpaibul with a score of fifteen-under-201.

Awangku Muhd Syakir finished with three-over-219, followed by Pengiran Wirahadikusuma bin Pengiran Haji Mohd Salleh with seven-over-223, Mohd Aritz Maldini bin Haji Abdul Majid with ten-over-226 and Bryan Chiew Chun Hao with 26-over-242.

The Brunei Darussalam Golf Association (BDGA) along with Mar’azmala Petrol Station and Trading and Sonax Brunei jointly sponsored the participants as part of BDGA’s strategy to expose and give experience to Brunei’s elite golfers to raise their level of competitiveness.

The winner of the qualifier, Thaya Limpipolpaibul of Thailand secured a place in the 3M Open 2022, which will be held from July 18 to 24 of at TPC Twin Cities, Blaine, Minnesota.
