The Brunei men’s basketball team endured a difficult start to their campaign in the 22nd Borneo City Basketball Invitation Tournament after falling to a 100-41 defeat to Miri in Labuan, Malaysia yesterday.
Brunei’s Tze Kiong Chai scored double-digits with 10 points while captain Ahmad Termizi Nordeen contributed with nine points in a losing effort.
William Wei Ren Ching was among the top three scorers for Brunei with eight points.
Miri’s Yi Hao Boon led his team with a 19-point haul alongside six other players whom made double digits. The Miri team asserted their dominance after ending the first quarter with a comfortable 25-10 lead before running away with an insurmountable 55-16 lead in the first half of the encounter.
The resurgent Miri team continued their momentum until the end of the match to condemn Brunei to an opening day loss.
Meanwhile, the veteran’s team lost 64-55 to Labuan.
The Brunei’s men team will continue their campaign against Labuan today while the women’s and veteran teams will meet Miri.
The three-day long tournament is organised by the Labuan Basketball Association.
