Brunei Darussalam which is sending 13 members to the WorldSkills ASEAN Singapore 2023 from July 23-25, is hoping to bag several medals.

Team leader Nor Qamariah Fahkriah binti Haji Yunos said preparations began last year with intensive training while they hope to bring back medals as well as gain experience to improve skills.

The delegation comprises nine competitors from Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), two from Politeknik Brunei (PB), Ministry of Education (MoE), and two from Youth Development Centre from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

They will compete in eight skill areas – refrigeration and air-conditioning, information network cabling, IT software solutions for business, cooking, restaurant service, mechanical engineering CAD, fashion technology and beauty therapy.

A national flag handover ceremony was held on Tuesday at the Longhouse Training Restaurant of IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus (IBTE SSRC).

Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad handed over the national flag to IBTE’s Director of Technical Education and Chief Executive Officer Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli, the head of Brunei’s delegation to WorldSkills ASEAN Singapore 2023.

Dr Haji Mohd Zamri recalled the Sultanate’s participation in the WorldSkills in 2001 where the country competed in four skill areas: automotive, cooking, technology and software and plumbing.
