Six officials left the country for Japan yesterday to participate in the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Brunei-Japan Energy Technology Exchange to deepen the knowledge on Japanese energy technology and to contribute to the resolution of policy issues in Brunei towards the achievement of zero emissions.
The participants are Siti Nurrohiidah binti Haji Abdul Aziz; Muhammad Azizi Johari and Sharifah A’tikah binti Wan Zainal Abidin from Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd; Nur Farahiah binti Awang Tengah and Dayangku Fairuz binti Pengiran Kamis from the Department of Energy, Prime Minister’s Office with Nurmaliza binti Ramli from the Department of Electrical Services, Prime Minister’s Office.
In an interview, Special Duties Officer Dayangku Fairuz said, “We would like to learn more about the energy technologies from Japan – especially the knowhow of how Japan adopts the green and renewable energy as well as cost effective approach.
“We would also want to learn about how renewable energy is adopted from grassroots level which I believe that Brunei’s village could also follow the footsteps of the Japanese’s successful adaption of green energy.”
Meanwhile, Senior Operative Technician Muhammad Azizi Johari said, “I hope to learn the new energy technologies from Japan as we understand that Japan is very advanced in clean energy. We can take a look of how these technologies can be implemented in the country as Brunei is looking at the transition to clean energy. Through this programme, we can learn more of renewable energy technologies from Japan.”
He added, “I am grateful to the Japanese government for providing the opportunity to participate in the JENESYS programme.”
Present to send off the Brunei delegation was Chargés d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of Japan to Brunei Darussalam Suda Atsushi. During the seven-day programme, participants will deepen their understanding of cooperation between Brunei and Japan in the energy sector to realise further economic collaboration between the two nations.
After arriving in Japan, the delegates will be briefed by the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy. During their trip, they will visit energy sites such as the Nagano Prefecture. – James Kon
