Brunei contingent leaves for Thailand Sports Games

The Brunei Darussalam Sports School contingent comprising 11 members has left the country to take part in the 24th Thailand Sports School Games which will be held until July 26 in Lampang Province, Thailand.

The contingent led by Mohammad Helme bin Panjang as the Chef de Mission includes four pencak silat athletes – Muhd Firdaus bin Muhidi; Muhd Azinuddin bin Mohd Azree; Nur Fatin Marzuqah binti Abdullah Asrizal; and Fatin Hazirah binti Muhidi – and three karate athletes, namely Mohd Zul Fahmi bin Roslan; Awangku Mohd Khalil bin Pengiran Kamarul Zaman and Muhd Haneef bin Metassan.

The contingent also includes two coaches and a medical officer.

Sports School Acting Principal Hajah Nor Aisah binti Haji Mohd Salleh sent the contingent off at the Brunei International Airport. Mohammad Helme said, “Our target for the athletes is to make it through the semi-final or better.”

He added, “The Sports School contingent has been making preparations since the start of the year and that training has been made daily. In terms of the selection of the athletes, there are different levels of athletes whereby every selected athlete is ready to perform overseas.”

The Chef de Mission also said that the selected athletes have also won medals in national competitions.

Their last participation in the Thailand Sports Games was in 2019 where they attained one gold and three bronze.

Among the objectives of the contingent is to test the performance of local student athletes among the neighbouring Sports School countries. – Fadhil Yunus
