Brunei contingent departs for Olympic Games

Seven members of the Brunei Darussalam contingent, including the Chef de Mission, a liaison officer, two coaches, two swimming athletes, and one athletics athlete, have departed for Paris, France, to participate in the 33rd Olympic Games, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024.

Present at Brunei International Airport to bid farewell and offer words of encouragement was Acting Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid. He was joined by Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, senior officers from the ministry, and President of the Brunei Darussalam Athletics Federation, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Mu’min.

The Brunei Darussalam contingent is led by Chef de Mission, Director of Youth and Sports, Dayang Hajah Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim.

In this edition of the Olympic Games, Brunei Darussalam will compete in two sports: swimming and athletics. Swimmers Awang Zeke Chan Zhi Yue and Dayang Hayley Wong Ann Yue will compete in the Men’s 100-meter Backstroke and Women’s 100-meter Breaststroke events, respectively. Meanwhile, athletics athlete Awang Muhammad Noor Firdaus Ar-Rasyid bin Haji Mohd Idris will compete in the Men’s 100-meter event. – ADIB NOOR
