Brunei coaches explore futsal tactics in Indonesia

Two coaches from Almerez HItune FC had the opportunity to explore and gain experience as well as share ideas with the professional coaches of the Indonesian Pro Futsal League 2024/2025 at the Bung Karno Hall, Sukoharjo, Indonesia.

The coaches of Almerez HiTune FC Haji Muhammad Abdul Azim bin Haji Zakeria and Muhammad Afiq Afandi bin Roslan Jalanee who had a working visit, saw the opportunity to learn important aspects of the futsal tournament from professional coaches from Indonesian futsal clubs.

Among the renowned coaches included the Indonesian national futsal head coach Hector Souto; head coach of Fafage Banua FC Sayan Karmadi; head coach of Blacksteel Papua FC Sergio; head coach of Rafley FC Qusmaini Noor; and head coach of Sadakata FC Fandy Frima.

“This meeting gave me new insights into team management, tactics and effective player development,” said Haji Muhammad Abdul Azim.

He added that one of the main things learnt was the different approach between professional and semi-professional level players, especially in terms of daily schedule management.

This includes the importance of regular sleep patterns, eating and proper nutrition to ensure players are always at an optimal physical and mental level.

He also witnessed the existence of academies established by elite clubs as a basis for long-term planning, in addition to being a platform to produce young talents capable of contributing to the main team.

“Almost all professional teams in Indonesia use advanced technology such as heart rate detectors, which are used during training and matches to monitor the players’ heart rate.

The data allows coaches to identify players’ intensity levels, determine appropriate rest times, and ensure they are always performing at an optimal level.

“The use of this technology not only improves individual performance but also helps coaches make tactical decisions more effectively,” he explained.

He emphasised that the valuable and meaningful experience was an inspiration to help implement and develop futsal in Brunei Darussalam, not only at the team level but also in forming a more professional long-term training and development structure. – Fadhil Yunus
