Brunei Chief Justice visits Peru Supreme Court

Brunei Darussalam Supreme Court Chief Justice Dato Seri Paduka Steven Chong on November 8 led a delegation from Brunei’s Judiciary to the Palace of Justice in Lima, the seat of the Supreme Court of Justice of Peru, for an official visit.

During the visit, the Chief Justice was welcomed by Justice of the Supreme Court of Peru Dr Manuel Estuardo Lujan Túpez, Chief of Cabinet of Advisors to the Presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice of Peru Dr Pedro Angulo Arana and Head of the Office of International Cooperation Mariela Pinto Rocha.

The Chief Justice held a bilateral meeting with Peruvian judicial representatives, discussing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Brunei Darussalam Supreme Court and the Judicial Branch of Peru.

Key areas of potential cooperation were explored, including the advancement of court technology, alternative dispute resolution methods and judicial education and training. Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam Hajah Hazarena binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Haji Hurairah along with a delegation from Brunei’s Judiciary were present at the meeting. The visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen judicial ties between Brunei and Peru, enhancing mutual collaboration in various legal and judicial fields. – Fadley Faisal
