The Brunei Athletics team secured seven medals in the RS Kinabalu Athletics League Championship 2023 held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in Malaysia.
The Brunei team won two gold medals, with Mohd Arif Danial bin Eddy Norisham winning the 1,500 metres (m) event for under-15 after clocking the time of 4:42.0s, while Nur Asyura binti Haji Rosli won the women’s open 800m event with a time of 2:39.83s.
Meanwhile, Ruzaini bin Mahadi bagged a silver in the men’s open 5,000m event with a time of 17:01.41s, while Siti Nur Hafizatul Shazana binti Hamiroldzam was placed second in the women’s open 5,000m with a time of 22:10.43s, beating her previous national record set at the Tuaran Open Championship competition.
Nur Asyura also competed in the 1,500m event and finished second with a time of 5:40.0s, while Noramallina binti Haji Bohari clinched the bronze medal in the 800m event with a time of 2:55.15s in the women’s open category.
The Athletics Championship organised by the Sabah RS Athletic Association was held from Saturday to yesterday, at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu. – Azlan Othman
