Brunei Darussalam’s Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) and the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) Cyber Security Council solidified their commitment to cooperation and advancement in cybersecurity following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Friday.
The ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperations (MoFAIC) in Abu Dhabi as a sideline event to the Regional Cyber Security Week held from October 8-13.
Representing the Government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Cybersecurity Cooperation MoU was signed by Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha as Minister-in-Charge of Cybersecurity. Cyber Security Head Dr Mohamed Hamad Al Kuwaiti represented the UAE government.
According to MTIC, the signing highlighted the mutual commitment of the two countries to fostering a secure and resilient cyber environment. It underscores the shared vision of the Sultanate and the UAE to elevate cybersecurity measures and fortify international collaboration to counter evolving cyber threats effectively.
The partnership embodies the essence of strategic alliances, emphasising the commitment of both nations to combating cyber challenges and will foster collaboration on matters relating to the latest trends and developments in cybersecurity, challenges and threats facing cybersecurity, strategies and best practices for cybersecurity incident response and recovery, and cybersecurity education and awareness.
Brunei’s minister will further contribute to the cybersecurity discourse as a panellist at the GITEX Global Cybersecurity Conference at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) today.
Themed ‘The Year to Imagine AI in Everything’, the conference serves as a vital platform for global leaders, industry experts, and policymakers to deliberate on the latest advancements and strategies in cybersecurity.
Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Abu Dhabi Haji Harun bin Haji Junid, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications) at the MTIC Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Interim Commissioner of Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) Shamsul Bahri bin Haji Kamis as well as senior officers from the ministry and CSB were also present during the signing. – James Kon
