    ‘Brunei a beautiful country’

    President of China – ASEAN Association Gu Xiulian recalling her previous visit to Brunei, said the country left a mark as a remarkably beautiful and green destination.

    Gu Xiulian also shared the strong bond between China and Brunei, particularly the significant attention paid by Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to foster friendship between both nations.

    Gu Xiulian said this when she and her delegation paid a courtesy visit to the new Brunei China Friendship Association office (BCFA) at Sunway Centre.

    BCFA President Dr Mohammad Firdaus bin Abdul Rahman and Chinese Ambassador-designate to Brunei Darussalam Xiao Jianguo welcomed her.

    She also reminisced about the occasion when Brunei Darussalam successfully hosted the 10th Conference on China-ASEAN People-to-People Friendship in 2015.

    Gu Xiulian described China and Brunei as good neighbours with a number of cooperations in various fields.

    She said His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Bangkok at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 2022.

    “China although is a big country, strives for peace and prosperity with other countries. It strives for peace, stability and progress as well as rapid development,” she added.

    Dr Mohammad Firdaus said they were honoured with Gu’s visit to the BCFA office.

    “The formation of the association is to further building friendship among people of both countries. We hope to build on economic prosperity, peace and bright future for the people of both countries,” he added.

    This is the first time the new BCFA’s office has received an official visitor. – James Kon
