The popular Pasar Pelbagai Barangan Gadong or Gadong Night Market is another gerai authorised to host stalls catering to customers buying food and drinks during Ramadhan.
Unlike the Gerai Ramadhan at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, the one in Gadong comprises vendors operating all year round. Some stalls are even open during sungkai hours.
Zezo Enterprise reported brisk business in the past few days, including tourists.
A staff member said she has been busy serving customers buying fritters, noting that this year has been much busier than last year and expressed hope that the business stays busy for the rest of Ramadhan.
She said the best sellers are banana, prawn and bubuk fritters. As the person in charge of frying the fritters, she said she is busy refilling the food without time for rest until sungkai.
Another stall, Bussku Kitchen, also reported good business in the past few days. They also shared the sentiment that business has been much better compared to the previous year, with large crowds since the first day of Ramadhan.
Specialised in freshly-squeezed juices for the health conscious customers, the vendor offers juice from fruits such as orange, avocado and mango.
Also among the vendors at the Gadong Night Market is teenager Ahmad, who just received his GCE ‘O’ Level results and awaiting acceptance from Institute of Brunei Technical Education.
He is at the market to help with the family business, which previously operated at Rimba Point.
Ahmad said the stall, specialising in dim sum, is doing well and sees many returning customers who liken the quality to restaurants.
Ahmad said, “I am grateful for the large number of customers we are getting. It is good to have them choose to break fast with our dim sum. Time flies when you’re helping out your family. By sungkai, I barely feel hungry or tired.” – Lyna Mohamad
