The Bridex Hall drive-through swab centre in Jerudong is capable of facilitating 6,000-8,000 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests per day, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar in response to the viral images of long queues at the drive-through swab centre.
“The images are true – the long line started even before the swab centre opened on the day, resulting in a number of medical staff unable to reach the centre to carry out their duties, which in turn, caused further delay,” said the minister.
However, it was only a temporary issue, said Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham, as operations continued to run as normal shortly after the incident.
“The capacity at the swab centre can easily handle 6,000 to 8,000 tests per day and can go beyond 10,000 tests per day if needed to. Nonetheless, the number of daily tests conducted at the centre is sufficient for the time being,” said the minister.
