Brand building strategies for local businesses

Baiduri Bank, in collaboration with the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), hosted the 15th MSME Empowerment Series workshop titled ‘Brand Mastery Masterclass’ recently.

The workshop aimed to provide local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with the tools to build powerful, enduring brands.

As part of Baiduri Bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme under the Economic Pillar, the event reflects the bank’s continued commitment to supporting the local business community.

The workshop brought together 50 business owners representing industries such as food and beverage (F&B), retail, and services.

Participants gained invaluable insights into evaluating their current brand position, identifying unique value propositions, and creating customer experiences that align with their brand story.

The foundational elements provided attendees with the tools to set realistic, growth-oriented branding goals tailored to their business aspirations.

Led by branding expert Dr Jerome Joseph from the Global Brand Academy, Singapore, the workshop offered a comprehensive approach to brand-building that extends beyond logos and slogans.

Renowned for his practical insights and engaging delivery, Dr Jerome brings over 28 years of experience in brand strategy, having worked with over 1,000 brands worldwide, including Fortune 500 companies.

One of the key tools introduced was internal branding, which teaches businesses how to engage their teams in delivering a consistent brand message.

Dr Jerome highlighted how aligning the team with brand values reinforces credibility and improves the overall customer experience. Additionally, participants explored customer engagement strategies to foster long-term loyalty and transform satisfied customers into enthusiastic brand ambassadors.

Baiduri Bank Head of Business Banking Mohd Isa Liew bin Mohd Amin Liew said, “At Baiduri Bank, we believe that strong brands are essential for sustainable business success.

“Through the MSME Empowerment Series, we aim to empower local businesses with the skills and confidence to build brands that resonate deeply with their target audiences.

“The workshop not only introduced practical frameworks but also showcased how strong branding can be a powerful tool for navigating challenges and seizing opportunities in a competitive market. By fostering a deeper understanding of brand strategy, we hope to enable Brunei’s businesses to strengthen their market presence locally and expand regionally.”

Since its launch in 2019, the MSME Empowerment Series has been a cornerstone of Baiduri Bank’s CSR initiatives, providing local businesses with valuable insights and support to drive sustainable growth and success.

Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) has been a partner of Baiduri Bank’s MSME Empowerment Series since 2019, as part of its wider efforts to provide capacity building for local enterprises.
